Dave Maass is an investigative researcher at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a San Francisco-based non-profit that defends civil liberties in a digital world. Dave’s work focuses on police surveillance and government transparency, including editing The Foilies, EFF’s annual tongue-in-cheek “awards” for outrageous responses to public records requests that runs in alt-weeklies across the country each year during Sunshine Week. Dave got his start reporting for the Tucson Weekly, and later served as a staff writer for the San Antonio Current, Santa Fe Reporter, and San Diego CityBeat. He is a winner of the First Amendment Coalition’s Free Speech and Open Government Award and the Youth Law Center’s Loren Warboys Unsung Hero Award. He also serves on the City of San Francisco’s Sunshine Ordinance Task Force.
